The Warriors Are the NBA's Newest Dynasty

The Warriors capped off their third championship in four years with a sweep of the Cavs in the NBA Finals.  Golden State was dominant in Game Four and went on one of their patented third quarter runs outscoring Cleveland 25 to 13.  The Warriors are positioned well to three-peat next season.

The main core of the team is expected to remain intact as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all under contract.  Kevin Durant will opt-out of his deal but has already said he will re-sign with Golden State at a reasonable number.  There will be some turnover in role players, but the Warriors have dealt with that over the years.

Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston, and Jordan Bell are returning, but Nick Young, JaVale McGee, David West and Kevin Looney are free agents.  The Dubs do have a first-round pick for the first time since 2016 and will have to be thrifty in filling out the rest of their roster.  The Warriors are already over the luxury tax for the 2018-19 season.

The only thing that could prematurely end the Warriors dynasty would be money.  Klay Thompson will be a free agent after this upcoming season and Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston's deals expire after the 2019-20 season.  The cost of keeping this core together would be prohibitive given the increasing cost of the luxury tax.

Tough decisions made after next season will dictate the future success of Golden State, but there is no denying their place in history.  The Warriors are 8-1 in their last two NBA Finals against the Cavs and were one win away from possibly winning four straight championships.

The Dubs became the first team to win three titles in four years since the Lakers won three straight from 2000 through 2002.  The Warriors have a chance to equal that mark this upcoming season, but after that, the team may undergo changes on their roster that could make them more vulnerable.
