Following their 12-9 overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens have made an interesting roster move.

The team announced on Monday that they have signed cornerback Cyrus Jones and waived wide receiver, Tim White.

This is a move centered around the return position. White replaced rookie Janarion Grant as the Ravens’ returner ahead of a Week 3 matchup against the Denver Broncos. But the second-year wideout struggled with ball security and fumbled once against the Browns.

Jones, a Baltimore native, was signed to the Ravens practice squad earlier in the season. He re-joined the New England Patriots for a brief stint, only to be cut yet again on Saturday. This time it looks like he will stay in his hometown for a significant period of time.

The Ravens have struggled with consistency at returner since the days of Jacoby Jones. Michael Campanaro provided a spark but struggled to stay healthy and provided little-to-no production as a receiver.

Jones, however, has had ball security issues of his own. He fumbled five times during his rookie season in 2016. He’ll provide depth to a secondary that’s battling injuries at cornerback and will get a chance at redemption to become the Ravens’ primary return man.

After an offensive struggle, field position only becomes more important as the season moves on.
