Ravens Should Grab Montez Sweat if Available

Ravens have 22nd Overall Pick

Much has been made about the Ravens need to sure up their pass-rush. With both Terrell Suggs and ZaDarius Smith set to be free agents, the Ravens have to answer some difficult questions.

With Terrell Suggs announcing that he’ll play next season regardless, even though he wants to be a Raven for life, the Ravens are in jeopardy of losing seven sacks of production. Add Smith on top of that and the Ravens may end up losing two elite sack masters.

The solution can be made simple if Mississippi State edge rusher Montez Sweat is available when the Ravens make their first round draft pick.

The Ravens currently have the 22nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Sweat has been projected to drop to the Ravens in many mock drafts, even though mock drafts are far from perfect.

The question will not be will but if Sweat is available at pick 22. An impressive Senior Bowl showing may have boosted Sweat’s stock and could potentially result in the Ravens missing out.

At Mississippi State, Sweat racked up 8.5 sacks and more than 14 tackles for loss.

Sweat commented on the possible fit with Baltimore and who he looked up to when he was growing up.

“Terrell Suggs most definitely. I watched him growing up. He’s a great pass rusher,” Sweat said in an article by Ravens staff writer Clifton Brown.

One thing is for certain. If Sweat is available for Baltimore, no Ravens fan should be worried. An elite pass rusher is always a top priority.
