A look into the numbers

The Baltimore Ravens are riding a three-game win streak and have relied on elite defense. Of course ball possession has been a huge key of past victories and this trend is much needed going up against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs (10-2) score at a rapid pace and have overwhelmed many defense along the way. Instead of comparing the players, let’s take a deeper look into the numbers.

The Chiefs rank tops in most offensive categories, such as:

1st in points per game (37.0)

1st in touchdowns, scoring 56 in just 12 games

3rd in passing yards (316.5) and total yards (437.2)

Meanwhile the Ravens rank tops in most defensive categories, including:

1st in points per game allowed (17.8) and total yards allowed (281.7)

2nd in passing yards allowed (194.4)

Emerging star corner Marlon Humphrey missed practice Wednesday and his status is unknown for Sunday. The Ravens surely need to be healthly in that secondary to stop Patrick Mahomes and the air-raiding Chiefs.

The Chiefs released star running back Kareem Hunt after video emerged of domestic violence. Although the Chiefs are regarded as a pass-heavy offense, Hunt produced superstar numbers and should prove to be a tough loss to the offense.

The Ravens rank 3rd against the rush, allowing roughly 87 rushing yards per game.

The Chiefs aren’t known for their defense and rank 22nd against the rush, allowing 122 rushing yards per game.

Since Lamar Jackson took over the starting job, the Ravens run game has flourished. As a team, Baltimore has ran for more than 200 yards in three straight games.

It should be pointed out that Pro Bowler Eric Berry looks ready to return Sunday and would be a huge addition to a laboring defense. There is a question of how healthy Berry will be in his first game this season.

The numbers are staggering for both teams. Come Sunday, it truly will be a test of who breaks first.
