Let’s Not Forget Tucker’s Greatness

Even after Sunday’s extra point blunder, Justin Tucker is still the best kicker in the NFL.

After Joe Flacco led a two-minute, fourth quarter comeback, the Ravens thought to have tied the game. After receiver John Brown secured the touchdown, the Ravens trailed 24-23 with an extra-point pending.

Ravens kicker Justin Tucker previously made all 222 of his extra points.

When Tucker missed the PAT, the entire stadium went in complete shock. For a man who seemingly was automatic, his missed PAT cost the Ravens the game. Tucker went on to acknowledge this point.

All the fans reacted similarly to the 28-year old.

Before we throw him to the ringer, let’s not forget exactly who we are talking about.

Tucker has an astounding 90% field goal completion. Since 2016, he has connected on 18 50+ yard field goals out of 20 attempts. He is a perfect 8-8 in his playoff career.

In his career, Tucker has kicked 11 game-winners for the Ravens. (Relive them all below).

Who can forget his 61-yard game-winner against the Detroit Lions?

Or his 47-field goal in double overtime to push the Ravens over the Broncos, en route to their 2012 Super Bowl win?

Extra-point attempts have freakishly been a concern for many teams in the league. In 2017, five NFL teams completed less than 90% of their extra-point attempts. Six teams this season, so far, have converted on less than 90%.

The fact that Tucker seemingly could not miss impacted this blunder. The fashion in which the miss happened, after a two-minute drive, highlighted the miss. But let’s not forget that the Ravens have the best kicker in the league right now.

He certainly isn’t the greatest kicker ever (yet), as that would be the 45-year old wonder Adam Vinateri in Indianapolis.

Nevertheless, Justin Tucker will bounce back from this. As hard as it sounds, the Ravens will bounce back from the loss. And after another successful PAT next week, all should be forgiven from the greatness that is JT.
