Since implementing a new format in 2015, the Home Run Derby has been must-watch television in recent years and tonight was no exception.

The tournament style bracket brought eight of the best home run hitters this season to Nationals Park and the home crowd got the show they were looking for. It was one of their own – slugger Bryce Harper – who outdueled Kyle Schwarber to take home the title.

Harper came in as the No. 2 seed and took little time to announce his presence. He clubbed 45 total homers, including a long of 441 feet. Sporting a full patriotic outfit, Harper provided plenty of fireworks.

Harper walked off in all three rounds, beating No. 7 seed Freddie Freeman(13-12), No. 3 seed Max Muncy (13-12) and finally No. 5 Schwarber in the final.

Schwarber took a commanding lead with 18 home runs and Harper quickly fell behind. But the slugger got hot and rattled off nine straight to tie it up.

And needing just one home run to win it all, Harper did just that on his second swing into his 30-second bonus round.

What a way to kick off All-Star festivities.
