Wizards Acquire Austin Rivers for Marcin Gortat

After a disappointing season for the Washington Wizards, massive changes are expected this offseason. The Wizards have lacked depth for several seasons and used the NBA Draft to begin bulking the bench up. They drafted small forward Troy Brown Jr. and Ukrainian point guard Issuf Sanon.

With the bench slowly but surely coming together, Washington made another move Monday night.

The Wizard received Austin Rivers, a scoring guard who provides great pop off the bench. It must have been tough for the Clippers to trade away Rivers, who is the son of Clippers head coach Doc Rivers.

Rivers had his best professional season in 2018, as he set career-highs in points (15.1), assists (4.0), and three-point percentage (37.8%).

Losing Gortat gives the Wizards a void at center, but there are many players available this offseason. Demarcus Cousins, Clint Capela, and Nerlens Noel are a few names that to come to mind.

Gortat had his worst season as a Wizards last season, scoring just 8.4 points on 51.8% along with 7.6 rebounds. His modest 8.4 points is his lowest since he was a role player in Orlando back in 2010.
