After being placed 60-day DL in late April, Orioles third baseman Tim Beckham re-joined the team for their homestand opener against the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.

Beckham spent an extensive stint on the DL after undergoing core surgery in late April. He was expected to be a crucial part of the lineup in 2018 after batting .306/.348/.523 in 50 games with the Orioles last season. Instead, Beckham endured struggles and posted .179 batting average and just four RBIs in 23 games to start his campaign.

To make room for Beckham’s return, the Orioles optioned LHP Donnie Hart to Triple-A Norfolk and placed Luis Sardinas on the 60-day DL.

Beckham went 0-4 on the night.

The Orioles are far from contention with more than half of the regular season left to play, yet a 28-year old Beckham marks a crucial return for the batting lineup.

If he can find his previous form from the second half of the 2017 season, the Orioles could see a boost on both sides of the plate.
