As the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline continues to inch closer, the rumors are quickly heating up surrounding Orioles All-Star shortstop Manny Machado. He’s set to become a free agent once the season concludes and with an unlikely future in Baltimore, the Orioles have a decision to make regarding his fate.

The interest is coming from all angles. At least seven teams – Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Phillies, Braves, Indians and Cubs – have made offers to the Orioles regarding Machado, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Eduardo Encina.

An eighth team is now interested and it’s not going to be a popular one among the crowd.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees have emerged as suitors for Machado but no offer has been made. But yes, even the AL East rivals are coming into play as they vie for a World Series title this season.

Reports continue to surface that the Orioles could package another player like Zach Britton but it remains unclear they would deal with a team within the division. However, the Orioles are far out of contention with a 25-66 record. The Yankees are the complete opposite and are in the race for the AL East title with the Boston Red Sox.

Trading Machado has proved to be a difficult task. His current contract expires at the end of the season, acting as a rental for most teams unless they can re-sign him to a long-term deal. The Yankees could very well be one of those teams, given their current talent and big-market location in New York City. They also could provide valuable prospects as the Orioles will likely enter a rebuild following the season’s conclusion.

It’d be a punch in the gut for most Orioles fans to see Machado playing for the Yankees but at this point, they may not have a better option if a deal is on the table.
