The Baltimore Ravens have placed rookie wide receiver Jaleel Scott on injured reserve. In return, the team has signed cornerback Robertson Daniel.

Scott didn’t play a snap against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night and has had a relatively quiet preseason. He caught just one pass for nine yards against the Los Angeles Rams.

Scott’s injury is undisclosed but the move stashes him on injured reserve for the entire season. He possesses a ton raw talent after one breakout season at New Mexico State but the Ravens see enough potential for him to develop down the road. The move prevents Scott from being claimed on waivers by another team if he were to be cut thanks to a new rule implemented by the NFL for players with less than four years of service. It will essentially act as a redshirt year for Scott, much like what the Ravens did with Tim White last season.

The top four receivers – Michael Crabtree, Willie Snead, John Brown and Chris Moore – are locks to make the 53-man roster the final two or three spots will be up for grabs with an important final preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Thursday.
