Ravens Place Alex Collins on IR, Activate Kenneth Dixon

The Baltimore Ravens announced today that running back Alex Collins has been placed on the Injured Reserve list with a foot injury.

In a corresponding move, running back Kenneth Dixon has been activated off of IR.

Collins was inactive in the team’s 34-17 win over the Oakland Raiders last Sunday and had been battling the foot injury. It’s a surprising move considering he practiced in full on Friday and was listed as questionable for a Week 13 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Following a breakout 973 yard and six touchdown season in 2017, Collins struggled to find the same success. He totaled seven touchdowns through ten games but rushed for just 411 yards and averaged just 3.6 yards per carry.

Dixon’s injury-riddled career landed him on IR following Week 1 with a knee injury. The third-year back rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown in the 47-3 blowout win over the Buffalo Bills.

Edwards is expected to receive the bulk of the workload but Dixon adds a pass-catching element to the backfield along with Ty Montgomery and Buck Allen.

Dixon is the second and final player the Ravens can designate to return from IR this season.

When healthy, Dixon has shown flashes of potential but his inability to stay on the field will leave many skeptical.
