Ravens DC Martindale Gives High Praise to Cleveland QB

With the Cleveland Browns next on the schedule, the Ravens are preparing for anything Sunday afternoon.

After Tyrod Taylor delivered the team a loss and a tie, the 1-2-1 Browns are now led by Baker Mayfield.

Defensive coordinator Don Martindale is extremely high on the opposing quarterback, telling reporters Thursday that the rookie Mayfield could be this generations Brett Favre or John Elway.

The rookie Mayfield clearly has the “confidence” Martindale eluded to. He came into the game against the New York Jets, producing a comeback win in primetime.

Mayfield has completed nearly 60% of his passes in his two performances, throwing for 496 yards with two touchdowns. Additionally, he has thrown two interceptions and fumbled twice.

The Ravens defense will be the toughest task for the young Mayfield. He will not be facing the Raiders defense Sunday. He will be facing the second-ranked defense in total yards along with fourth in passing yards allowed.

The comments can be viewed in two ways. Sure, Martindale understands the number one pick has what it takes in the league.

On the flipside the comments could be fluff, setting up Mayfield for the game. He will soon find out what a professional defense looks like, an elite defense at that.
