The Capitals have always had the talent. Now they are putting it into full effect. We all know they got the monkey off their backs after defeating the Penguins last series.

They started this series with the Lightning up 2-0. After dropping the next three games, they evened the series at 3-3 with a commanding 3-0 victory at home to force game 7.

The Caps play Game 7 against the Lightning in Tampa Bay Wednesday night. Star Alex Ovechkin said this upcoming game is “going to be the biggest game in our life.” The Caps know what it’s like to lose a win-or-go home. It was just last year where they lost to Pittsburgh in Game 7, ending their season and fueling their run this year.

Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom know Game 7’s all too well as the showdown with Tampa Bay will be their 11th win-or-go home.

Another win would add to Ovechkin’s legacy and continue the Capitals historic run. History isn’t on Washington’s side as they are 4-11 in Game 7’s in franchise history. Nevertheless, the Caps have many things going for them. Ovechkin is arguably the best scorer currently playing. Evgeny Kuznetsov has produced tremendously and Backstrom is healthy. Add in TJ Oshie and strong defense from Braden Holtby, and the Capitals could see themselves competing for their first Stanley Cup.

Game 7 starts Wednesday night at 8pm down in Tampa.
