The Orioles made some news Thursday after signing four international prospects.

Of course Orioles fans may be uneasy after trading star shortstop Manny Machado in July, but now have secured a Machado in the infield for years to come. There is no relation between Manny and Gilbert, though scouts have praised Gilbert’s talents.

Orioles Director of player development Brian Graham described Machado as a "natural shortstop with plus defensive skills and athleticism."

As for the other three prospects, Infante agreed to the largest contract with a $175,000 signing bonus. Infante is perhaps the best prospect signed by the Orioles. Graham described Infante as “a right-handed-hitting corner outfielder who also possesses the skill set to play second base, we believe that he will develop to be a productive hitter.” It’s always great when prospects have the ability to play multiple positions.

Gomez, like Machado, comes over from Venezuela as a 17-year old with great potential. He is a “well-rounded, right-handed-hitting outfielder who can run, throw and play all three outfield positions.”

As for the only pitcher signed on the day, LaRoche has a “consistent delivery that allows him to throw strikes.”

There was some questions when the Orioles, who has a financial advantage, decided not to outbid the Miami Marlins for the touted Mesa brothers from Cuba. They signed both brothers for a combined $6.5 million.

All in all, the Orioles have added talent to their farm system, which has seen a surge after the array of trades in July. Headlined by Yusniel Diaz (acquired in the Manny Machado trade), the Orioles farm appears to have great potential in the coming years.
