A new era has begun in Baltimore!

After an abysmal 2018 campaign, which saw the Orioles wins just 47 games, the organization is moving forward under new leaders.

There was a press conference held Monday afternoon to introduce new General Manager Mike Elias. Along with John and Louis Angelos, Elias spoke to the media about his newest opportunity.

“This organization has had, in its history and DNA, been considered as the smartest and most progressive organization in baseball. We are here to restore that reputation.”

Elias grew up in the Northern Virginia area and frequently visited Baltimore. He went to the Houston Astros organization with Jeff Luhnow, as both served under the St Louis Cardinals organization previously.

With Houston, Elias served as the assistant general manager. He oversaw many great players join the big leagues, including 2015 Rookie of the Year Carlos Correa and 2018 All-Star Alex Bregman.

Elias spoke on possible similarities between this Orioles team and the Astros team he inherited in 2016.

“There are a lot of players on this team and in the organization that will be on the next playoff team. (I am) looking forward to seeing who that is here in Baltimore.”

The Angelos brothers emphasized the impression and talent Elias presented in their meetings.

‘We couldn’t be happier with Mike Elias come on board with this organization. Mike made a fantastic impression all throughout the process. Incredibly prepared and thoughtful.”

As for the manager search, Elias spoke about a combination of decision-making and analytics will be necessary for any of the candidates.

“Analytics have to be incorporated with decision-making. I would be very surprised if any of the candidates are not current on that approach."

The process of finding a new manager is underway and Orioles fans alike should be excited for the future.
