Orioles drop to 5-6

Baltimore – Oakland A’s get their revenge on the Orioles Tuesday night. Some Orioles moves occurred before the game.  One of them being Nate Karns who was put on the 10-day injured list for forearm fatigue, Orioles, then, recalled Evan Phillips.  Alex Cobb was also put on the 10-day injured list for a lumbar strain.  Brandon Hyde mentioned after the game about Cobb’s inury, “back spasms, felt good yesterday and today he went out and threw and his back tightened up on him.”  Cobb was supposed to start against the A’s tomorrow night.  Cobb was recently put on the injured list for a right groin strain.  He pitched 5.2 innings against the Yankees in the home opener for the Orioles on Thursday.

 John Means made his first career start against the A’s.  Means pitched 3.0 innings.  Hyde said after the game that he “tried to get four to five innings from John [Means].  First MLB start, thought a lot of positives came out of it.”   Orioles were hoping to try and make it on the board in the third inning.  There were no outs for the Orioles, with Martin walking and Villar’s grounder that extended his hitting streak to nine games.  Rickard’s second at-bat was a single on a line drive to center field and Martin received the sign to try and make it home.  He was called out at home, giving the Oriole’s one out in the third inning.  The second out came from an attempted steal from Joey Rickard that was perfectly thrown by A’s catcher Josh Phegley to Jurickson Profar.  The inning concluded with Mancini’s fly out to center field and no runs.    

 After three innings for Means, Phillips came into pitch three scoreless innings.  Richard Bleier came in for had a total of 27 pitches until Miguel Castro came into relieve him.  Bleier was charged with four runs in 1.1 innings.   

Castro stayed in to close the game recording back-to-back balks and allowed three runs with the final score of 13-2.  Dan Straily will be the starting pitcher tomorrow for the injured Alex Cobb.  The Orioles also called up Josh Rogers for more depth.  Orioles drop to 5-6 and the A’s snap their four game losing streak.
