The Orioles won the homerun battle, but lost another game in the Beltway series.

The Nationals struck first when Trea Turner hit a deep homerun in the 2nd inning to give the Nats a 1-0 lead. Turner had a career day going 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Orioles came fighting back as Jace Peterson’s two-run homerun gave the O’s a 2-1 lead.

Trey Mancini added to the lead with a two-run homerun of his own in the 4th.

Manny Machado hit into a double play in the 5th, though pitcher David Hess scored in the process making the score 5-1.

Hess was solid until the bottom half of the 5th inning. He surrendered a two-run single by Adam Eaton to cut the lead to 5-3.  After a sacrifice fly by Anthony Rendon, Bryce Harper ripped an RBI double to tie the game at 5-5.

Rendon hit a two-run double against Tanner Scott as the Nats took the lead 7-6. Mike Wright Jr. came in for relief and surrendered an RBI single to Michael Taylor. Wilmer Difo hit an RBI-single as well as the lead was pushed 9-6.

Joey Rickard tried starting a rally with a solo homerun in the 9th inning, though the Nationals held on for a 9-7 victory.

Baltimore has two more games in Washington until heading to Atlanta for a three-game set with the Braves.
