For the first time in the Ravens’ draft process, the leading GM was not named Ozzie Newsome.

General Manager Eric DeCosta brought in a great haul in this year’s draft, headlined by wide receiver Marquise Brown.

As stated in a previous article, the draft pick that will perhaps make the fastest impact is receiver Miles Boykin.

Drafted in the third round, the 6’4, 220 pound-receiver signed his contract with the Ravens on Wednesday.

Details of Boykin's rookie contract has yet to be reported. With the signing of Boykin, the entire rookie class is officially Ravens.

Before a hamstring injury sidelined him, Boykin was turning heads at rookie minicamp. His size and long wingspan make him a viable redzone threat. Additionally Boykin should be a valuable asset in the run game, as he possesses the stature to become a formidable run blocker.

Boykin’s trustworthy hands should allow him to compete for a starting position this season. With receivers such as John Brown and Michael Crabtree gone from a season ago, the wide receiver position is truly up for grabs.

Boykin’s performance at the NFL Combine shouldn’t be taken with a grain of salt. His incredible attributes, ranging from his 4.42 40 yard dash to his 6.77 3-cone time, should translate well to the pros.

At Notre Dame, Boykin showed just how special he can be in a rush-first offense. In 13 games of action, Boykin hauled in 59 catches for 872 yards along with eight touchdowns.

For the Ravens offense, the ability to have an outside threat such as Boykin should coexist well with Brown, a speedy threat on the opposite side.

The Ravens rookies will have a lot of opportunities to earn their way onto the field. Now, we’ll just have to wait for and watch their development.
