The 2018 MLB All-Star Game kicks off from the nation’s capital on July 17th and the despite sporting the worst record in baseball, the Baltimore Orioles are pretty much guaranteed at least one representative.

As of Monday, Manny Machado currently leads American League shortstops with 1.27 million votes. He’s the only Orioles player leading any positional vote and sits 137,000 votes ahead of Astros’ Carlos Correa. It’s a talented group of players that includes Francisco Lindor, Didi Gregorius, and Jean Segura.

Machado made the move back to his natural position at shortstop this season and is one of the best at his position on both sides of the plate. He currently leads the Orioles in every major batting category, sporting a .310/.377/.564 slash line along with 21 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Voting ends on Thursday and Machado is expected to finish atop the group.

This will be Machado’s fourth All-Star appearance and he’s on pace to put up career-best numbers in the most important season of his career. With free agency looming, he's racking up the stat sheet, even if the Orioles aren’t.

Barring what seems to be a miracle at this point, the Orioles are a long-shot to keep Machado in Baltimore. The two sides failed to agree to an extension before the start of the season and the price tag continues to grow.

While he’ll be sporting black and orange during the All-Star game, there’s a very real chance that those colors change soon after as the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline looms at the end of the month.
