Kenny Young’s Big Opportunity

With the injury to star middle linebacker CJ Mosely, the Ravens will look toward Kenny Young against the Broncos this Sunday.

The news on Mosely looked rough, as first reports stated Mosely may miss several weeks. In regards to the defense, Mosely is arguably the key piece.

Young appeared to be the next man up to start in place for Mosely and the Ravens resigned veteran Albert McClellan to add more depth. It’s unknown whether McClellan was sgned to start, yet expect Young to get tons of reps regardless.

Young has impressed in his first two games, recording 12 tackles and a sack. He almost won the starting position in preseason, as he went head-to-head with Patrick Onwuasor.

His greatest attribute is his coverage skills, particularly for a rookie. Coach John Harbaugh talked about Young’s development this early in the season.

“He could be on the field all three downs now,” Harbaugh claimed Wednesday.

Having Young on the field clearly could help the Ravens going forward. The injury to Mosely will be missed and could surely be devastating if it turns to missing extended time.

Nevertheless the time and learning Young will get in the meantime will make the defense that much better when Mosely returns.

We’ll see Sunday whether or not Young gets the start. His production surely warrants the start, though nothing has been confirmed.

The linebacker core will have their hands full with the running back tandem of Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay. Though with the added depth of McClellan along with Young and Onwuasor, the Ravens should be ready for the test.
