The Baltimore Ravens began rookie minicamp this past weekend and as expected, the bulk of attention surrounded Lamar Jackson. The first-round pick took the field for the first time in a Ravens uniform and media swarmed him every chance they got.

Jackson was drafted with the full intention to be the Ravens’ quarterback of the future. Given Joe Flacco’s lack of production and contract situation, it’s even sparked discussion about starting time this season.

With every question thrown his way, Jackson has remained humble and hungry, expressing his want to learn from Flacco this season. But so far, there’s been no communication between the two sides.

When asked if he had spoken to Flacco yet, Jackson simply replied, “No, I haven’t”

Flacco has stayed quiet since Jackson’s addition and even declined to speak to reporters at the team’s Draft Fest late last month. He’s seen the writing on the wall but this isn’t something for fans to get worked up about.

It’s barely been over a week since the conclusion of the draft and rookies are just getting situated to life at the next level. The two have an entire offseason and 16-game regular season to communicate. Let’s pump the breaks before making this story into a bigger deal than it needs to be.

The Ravens should consider this a blessing in disguise, considering the comments made by Ben Roethlisberger regarding the Steelers’ decision to draft Mason Rudolph.

Flacco can mentor the quarterback of the future but he’s also the quarterback of the present. The Ravens still believe they can win now with No. 5 and will look to do that this season.
