After watching from the sidelines the entirety of the Hall of Fame game, Joe Flacco is expected to make his preseason debut on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams. He spoke to the media following Monday's joint practice.

Flacco will see action but likely won’t be out on the field for more than a few series. It’s a chance for him to get acquainted with the offense in a game situation. But John Harbaugh and co. will be cautious to make sure Flacco doesn’t risk injury. We’ll likely still see heavy doses of RGIII, Josh Woodrum and Lamar Jackson for most of the game.

This time last year, Flacco was sidelined with a back injury almost the entire offseason. He didn’t play a single snap in the 2017 preseason but it’s been a completely different storyline in 2018. With a new-look offense, Flacco has been active the entire offseason through training camp as he enters a pivotal season in his 10-year career.

While Lamar Jackson hasn’t shown the consistency to compete for the starting job, Flacco understands the writing on the wall. Much like how Alex Smith performed with the Kansas City Chiefs last season after the addition of Patrick Mahomes, the expectations are high for the former Super Bowl MVP.

Assuming things go as planned, we'll get the first look at Flacco on Thursday night.
