Gus Edwards, De’Lance Turner May Get the Call Up In Wake of Dixon’s Injury

Injuries have limited Kenneth Dixon’s impact on the field and he’s found himself on the medical report, yet again.

Dixon totaled 44 yards on 13 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown – all in the second half – in the Ravens’ 47-3 blowout win over the Bills on Sunday, but exited the game with less than two minutes to play after suffering an apparent knee injury.

Per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Dixon is expected to miss time.

Dixon missed the entire 2017 season after suffering a torn meniscus and has struggled to stay healthy throughout his young career in Baltimore. Now in his third season, he’s played in just 13 of 33 possible games.

The Ravens opted to take Dixon on the 53-man roster over a trio of undrafted rookie running backs but kept Gus Edwards and De’Lance Turner on the practice squad. On a short week with a Thursday night matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, Edwards or Turner could get the call-up.

Both backs flashed throughout the preseason but Edwards missed the finale against the Washington Redskins due to injury. Turner posted a strong finish, breaking off a pair of long runs in the final two games, most notably a 65-yard touchdown run against the Miami Dolphins. Alex Collins and Buck Allen are still expected to receive the bulk of the workload but depth will be crucial as the Ravens try to establish their ground game this season.

It would be surprising to see the Ravens gamble with just two healthy running backs, especially in an early divisional game where every win matters in pursuit of the AFC North title.

With no chance of an outside signing given a lack of time, look for Edwards or Turner to potentially make their rookie debuts on Thursday.
