Ravens fans may want to look away after assistant general manager Eric DeCosta’s latest comments.

As DeCosta is set to take over the general manager role for Ozzie Newsome after the 2018 season, he made some noise with a comment about the rival Steelers. DeCosta talked about the Ravens approach in drafting and organizing the team on the Talk of Fame Network Podcast.

“We’ve tried to build a sustained culture over a period of time, like some of our competitors. We’ve admired the Steelers, even though it’s probably hard for me to say that. Teams like the Steelers who have been able to consistently win, they do it a certain way, and we’ve tried to emulate that.”

The Ravens draft process defensively has been similar to the Steelers draft process offensively. The majority of picks have become stars in the league as Ravens players such as CJ Mosely and Marlon Humphrey have been tremendous. The Steelers have drafted a plethora of offensive skill players such as Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The Ravens have done a lot in free agency this offseason to patch up holes on the offensive side of the ball with Michael Crabtree and Willie Snead IV. There is no denying that if they had the draft processing of the Steelers offensively, the Ravens would be a premier team in the league.

DeCosta isn’t wrong when saying they’ll try to “emulate the Steelers,” but did he have to say it publicly? The Steelers are the Ravens greatest rival and giving them any sort of credit breaks an unwritten rule. Don’t ever give the rival credit!
