DC Martindale Speaks on LeVeon Bell's Absence

Bell will not play Sunday vs Ravens

The back-and-forth that occurs between two teams before strapping up on Sundays is always amazing. When it comes to the Ravens and the Steelers, the words always seem more personal.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale spoke about the Steelers, who have been without Bell the entire season. Bell, who is seeking a long-term contract, has held out on the Steelers and declined to sign the franchise tag.

Meanwhile the Steelers have found another great back in James Conner. Conner has logged nearly 600 yards with nine touchdowns, including two scores in each of his last three games.

Martindale made light of Bell's absence, knowing exactly what his defense is up against this Sunday.

The stats Martindale appears to be alluding to may be the stats released by a Blitzburg Twitter account.

Although the Steelers have a slightly higher win pecentage, they score more points, total yards, and have a better red-zone conversion rate without Bell.

Although those stats are telling, the last time Le’Veon Bell played the Ravens, he scored three touchdowns along with 125 total yards en route to a 39-38 victory over Baltimore. He didn't suit up in the Ravens 26-14 win earlier this year.

Stopping the backfield threat has been key against the Steelers ever since he came to the league in 2013. Even with Conner, the Ravens defense will have to be weary of the running back up the middle and catching out of the backfield.
