C.J. Mosley Provides No Update On Contract Extension

C.J. Mosley enters the final year of his rookie contract with the Baltimore Ravens and has been the staple of the defense since arriving in the Charm City in 2014. He’s made the Pro Bowl three of his first four seasons, missing just two games and racking up 492 total tackles, 8 sacks, and 8 interceptions.

But as it’s been all offseason, it’s strictly business and that didn’t change yesterday when Mosley took the podium following the team’s first official training camp practice.

“No updates so far,” Mosley said regarding his current contract situation. “Next time I have my media day, I’ll make sure I talk to my agent [and] see where we’re at. Nothing has been configured by them. I mean, my answer is still the same from OTAs. Got here yesterday, got here today ready to work, that’s what it’s all about. Whether something works out or not, I still have an obligation to be the guy in the middle to make the plays and make the calls. That’s my job; that’s what I’m here to do.”

As boring as it may seem for those looking for some offseason headlines, Mosley has kept himself out of contract talks from all accounts. It’s not something many athletes are accustomed to doing in today’s NFL. Over the weekend, running back Le’Veon Bell and his agent spoke publicly regarding a failed long-term agreement with the Steelers.

So far there have been no indications that Mosley and the Ravens are close to a contract extension. Mosley has taken the road less traveled by and opted to keep his focus on the field and let his agent do the negotiating.

While there may be differing opinions on that tactic, Mosley has likely earned nice payday following his final season with the Ravens in 2018. Whether that will be in Baltimore or another team won’t be decided until later but the Ravens cannot afford to lose one of their most prized defensive possessions.
