The Baltimore Orioles aren’t the only local team making some noise ahead of the trade deadline.

Stuck at a crossroads six games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, the Nationals are reportedly doing the unthinkable.

They're making Bryce Harper available hours before the 4 p.m. deadline approaches.

According to Mark Feinsand of, the Nationals have made it known to opposing teams that Harper is on the trading block.

In just under seven seasons, Harper has proven to be an immense talent. He’s racked up 175 home runs and 483 RBIs during that span. But his 2018 campaign has been underwhelming, posting a .220 batting average.

Destined to be an unrestricted free agent by the end of the season, Harper will seek a $400 million contract on the open market and there’s a good chance the Nationals won’t be the team to offer it to him.

Ken Rosenthal reported the Harper rumors as “feelers,” but it’s exciting news baseball needs heading into the deadline.

Harper would be considered the ultimate rental for a team in the pennant race and. He'd join Manny Machado as the second big-named player to fall under this category.

If a contender were to make a last-minute trade for Harper, it would send the baseball world into shambles.
